2011 Fall Maryland Major Soccer League Wrap Up

The Baltimore Kickers men's soccer team concluded the 2011 fall Maryland Major Soccer League season in the Champions Division on Tuesday, November 15 with a 0-0 draw to newly promoted Vybez United. The men's squad finished exactly where they were last year at the end of the fall season, fifth in the standings with a 5-8-1 record.

The men's squad opened the 2011 fall season with a promising 3-2 win over rival Magicmen FC but, stumbled over the next six games. On Thursday, October 13, the Kickers regained their composure and battled two time MMSL Champions League winners, Baltimore Bays, to 3-2 loss. Despite the unfortunate outcome for the men's team, the Bays players and manager/coach Bryan Bugarin, complimented the Kickers on their performance, stating the game was the toughest by far all season. The match proved to be a turning point for the Kickers as they would go 3-1-1 over the next five games and qualifying for the Bernie Reif Cup.

The Kickers will be entering in all State and National Cups (Rowland Cup, Stewart Cup, US Men's Open Cup, US Men's Amateur Cup, Maryland O-30 Cup, US Men's O-30 Cup) for 2011-2012.

The Baltimore Kickers men's soccer team kicked off the 2011 Maryland Major Soccer League fall season with a 3-2 win over rival Magicmen F.C.

The game's first goal was scored by the Kickers' leading point getter from last season, forward Chris Lorenzet to give Baltimore a 1-0 lead.

The Kickers continued to dominate possession in the first half with Joe Pusateri and Brandon Fisher bossing the midfield. Winger Greg Keller and forward/midfielder Colin Rome both came close with chances but were unable to convert. The Kickers went to the intermission with the 1-0 lead.
After the interval, the Magicmen changed formation and began to apply more pressure. However, the Kickers were able to break that pressure and counter, with Colin Rome able to dent the twine with a fine individual effort to put the Kickers up 2-0 in the 50th minute.
Five minutes later, Magicmen FC were back in the game with a fine finish after a poor clearance to cut he deficit to 2-1.
In the 70th minute, another Kickers counter-attack found forward Andre Bishop streaking down the left flank. Bishop beat his man and slid a ball through the six yard box that was spilled by the Magicmen goalkeeper and fell to the waiting feet of forward Kelli Maddox who converted to put the Kickers up 3-1. However, off the kickoff, the Magicmen went right down and scored off a magnificent solo effort by the opposing forward and reduced the deficit to 3-2.
The Kickers absorbed heavy pressure, and cleared a sure goal off the line to see out the victory. The Kickers are back in action on Sunday, August 21st at 8:15am at Arundel High School against Charm City F.C.

The game had been previously been scheduled for the evening of June 9 but, was postponed and rescheduled because of thunderstorms in the area. The Baltimore Kickers men's squad finished at the top of the table in the 2011 Mid-Maryland Soccer Association men's spring soccer league.

A 6-2 win over Christos Baptist May 26, 2011, at Catonsville H.S., assured the Kickers of the top spot and first round bye for the playoffs. Baltimore finished the spring regular season schedule with only one loss, which came at the hands of the second place team, Platinum Kickers.

Woodbine, MD - The Baltimore Kickers men's team won their opening round game of the 2011 Rowland Cup tournament, 4-2 over the DC Flames at chilly Western Regional Park. The DC Flames come from the Cosmopolitan Soccer League around Washington D.C., and have won the CSL 4 years in a row.

The Kickers received goals from four different players in the game. Roughly 10 minutes into the match, Baltimore central midfielder Brian Tully opened up the scoring by putting the Kickers up 1-0, with a rifle from about 22 yards out. The lead would not last long as the Flames pressured Baltimore's backline, and got the equalizer to make it 1-1. The Kickers were unlucky to not have tallied more goals in the first half as a their shots nearly missed, some striking the post and others forcing the opposition's goal keeper into making saves. Baltimore would regain the lead deep in the first half when forward/midfielder Nick Kiss unloaded a cannon from the top of the Flames' 18 yard box to give the men's team a one goal lead that they would take into the break.

The Kickers began the second half leading 2-1 but, the run of play shifted to the visitors from Silver Spring and the Flames came out pushing to tie the game.15 minutes into second half, Baltimore conceded the tying goal, making the score 2-2 . With less than 15 minute left on the clock and the score still even, the men's team began thinking about penalty kicks because if the match was tied at the end of regulation time, the teams would have gone straight to PKs. Fortunatlely for the Kickers, central midfielder Joe Pusateri made a brilliant run down the center the of the park and netted the game winner from 12 yards out, with under 10 minutes to play.

The Flames, behind again, tried to mount another comeback, but in stoppage time Brandon Fischer iced the game for Baltimore, giving the Kickers a 4-2 lead and the win.
